Welcome to my website and online portfolio. I am an educator, counselor and consultant. My combination of 25 years working for large brands and my new career as an educator and researcher give me unique perspectives. I consult with organizations looking to refine their message or manage issues or crises. I thrive on creative challenges and enjoy building strong relationships along the way. About Matt
In my career, I've led communications departments and worked with senior executives and CEOs to build brands and engage employees. I wrote crisis communications plans and helped manage high profile crises to protect reputation. Today, I teach master's degree students in those same areas. I also write about brand building and crisis communications in publications including Communications World, Journal of Professional Communication and Journal of Management Education and have been interviewed by Forbes and Inc. magazines. I currently serve on the Board of Directors of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC).

In my professional career, I managed communications departments for organizations including Sanofi-Aventis Pharmaceuticals, Great Plains Energy/KCP&L and Saint Luke's Health Systems.

In 2018, I received the Arthur E. Lowell Communicator of the Year award from the Kansas City Chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators -- the organization's highest honor.
